PHILOSOPHICAL RESEARCH CIRCLE

PRC.png

Although we have entered the 21st century, the expectations placed in this era for a world of harmony and progress are far from being a reality at the level of culture, values and spiritual development in general. At the same time, technological progress - although its achievements are constantly emerging - is being used and dealt with which brings back to the fore social phenomena and intellectual regressions of previous eras. Ideally, it should contribute to a creative and evolutionary view of the role of each person, in a world where geographical and at the same time social and cultural boundaries are expanding and at the same time enriched with new challenges of knowledge and values, which require new views and approaches.

In an age like this where free, analytical and critical thinking is not encouraged to develop and broaden its horizons, the PRC Philosophical Research Circle aims to provide the appropriate environment, as well as the required stimuli ( on an individual and collective level) for such an exploration, under the distinctive framework of tectonic principles. Cultivating the creative dialogue and the birth of questions and concerns - in an attempt to overcome the traditional education, at the epistemological and social level that each of us has received - to offer the motivation for a "personal awakening" of each participant and a new consideration of the position of and of its interaction with the world, of which it is an integral component.

A discussion and research circle open to Masons and non-Masons and scheduled to meet online 3 times a year is waiting for you to join!

Free Will. Reality or Illusion?

From the dawn of the 18th century to the age of Quantum Physics in the 21st century, the burning question of whether or not free will (or self-will) exists in humans, continues to trouble intellectuals and scientists.

A question that was initially confined to the realm of philosophy, then occupied psychology, medicine and the sciences of administration (government, politics, etc.), and recently also Neuroscience (with the flourishing – and rise of the extensive study of the brain ).

The answer to this question, and how we respond to the answer, can fundamentally change every aspect of human existence. How do we govern, how do we treat a person, what does justice mean, who has rights and what rights, what is morality, what is truth, what we can and are allowed to do to each other? …

"Individual responsibility as a lever in social becoming and its role in mobilizing for solidarity"

As political beings - in the Platonic definition - living in the same state, the problem that arises for one will inevitably affect the whole, making it potentially a problem for all.

In our country, the recent extreme events and weather phenomena with the disasters they created, gave rise to a huge wave of solidarity from citizens, who, both with useful resources and self-sacrifice, rushed to help the affected.

Is solidarity - as a result of the feeling of individual responsibility - enough to motivate our actions and create mechanisms that will emphasize the flourishing and progress of the social whole? Can the good intentions and the need/tendency of some to benevolent activate the qualities that all people - without any exception - possess and create acts of kindness of high value, without necessarily costing dearly?

How does the transformation of the bystander into a dynamic active citizen (withstander) take place? How does the disorder of individual action create - through "power in union" - dynamics and order in the disorder of chaos caused by a sudden event?

The hundredth monkey phenomenon. The Myth of Critical Mass.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.

In fact, that's the only thing that's ever happened."

Margaret Mead

So who is this "critical mass", a core of supporters who will prevent or encourage the new to come? What is it that prevents us from letting go of old ideas? What is it that prevents a new idea, such as disproving the theory, from spreading? And more importantly, how ready are we to accept that our ideas are not true? Are we ready to investigate whether our beliefs are verified?
